Give a boost to your skin and hair care regimen, this winter!

While the colder months are here, so it’s time to pull up your socks and get yourself covered in the warmth of scarf, mittens, and mufflers to protect your skin from the whipping winds, dry air, and chilly temperature so that they do no harm to your skin and hair. Winter season is known to cause havoc on delicate hairs, hands, feet  and skin as the cold air outside can strip moisture from strands and pores, making hair rough while, skin itchy and dry. Here are a few tips to boost your skin and hair care regimen that will let you enjoy the season at its best.

  1. Go for a lukewarm bath

Dry Skin is the bane of winter living. Stick to a lukewarm water bath during winters. Make sure you use a moisturizing soap. To cure dry skin all over the body, mix a few drops of olive oil in bathwater or apply a thin layer of it to the body after showering. Otherwise, adding a few cups of whole milk to bathwater can moisturize your skin very well.  To relieve your skin that has become itchy you can have a lukewarm bath with oatmeal as it’s really helpful.

  1. Moisturize your skin daily

Choose a really good moisturizer or use pure almond cream to keep the skin moisturized and soft. Pay special attention to the exposed parts. Keep your hands, nails and feet well moisturized with stronger stuff like products that have petroleum jelly or glycerin. Don’t miss to slather on a sunscreen lotion before stepping out of the home as it is most effective during winters too. Also, use exfoliants to get the dead skin off periodically; as this helps any moisturizer to sink in faster and deeper.

  1. Get away with Chapped Lips

To get rid of that dry, flaky skin try a sugar scrub on lips by mixing regular sugar with coconut oil. Otherwise, you can apply honey or Vaseline for about 15 minutes and then remove with a cotton swab dipped in hot water. Don’t forget to keep a tube of lip balm in an easily accessible pocket to get away with chapped lips throughout the winter.

  1. Say goodbye to dull complexion

Winters are a curse when it gets you dull complexion. Maintain your beauty and complexion from inside by keeping yourself hydrated and drinking lots of water and having on omega-3s, essential fatty acids found in foods such as salmon and walnuts. Omega- 3s will boost hydration, so ensure to get enough of it while flaunting fair and glowing skin.

  1. Treat your hair well

When styling your hair, use a board-bristle brush. Avoid styling products like gels and hairsprays with alcohol. Better options for treating hair in cold weather can be styling creams packed with essential oils to add shine and texture without drying out hair. Since you don’t sweat much in winter, don’t shampoo too often as it may dry out the scalp and hair. Use a mild shampoo and lukewarm water as very hot water can be harmful to your hair and scalp.

  1. Condition before you wash

Coat dry hair with a “pre-wash conditioner” or deep conditioner that contains jojoba, lavender, Shea butter, or rosemary oils for up to an hour to trap moisture in the hair .Do this at least once a week for finer hair and twice if your hair is coarse .Afterward, shampoo with a moisturizing formula and follow with a leave-in conditioner. If you want to go natural, coconut milk is an excellent conditioner that can get you good hair in winters.

  1. Oil your hair frequently

However busy your schedules maybe, oil your hair frequently. Oiling help regulates the blood circulation and keeps your scalp moisturized.

  1. Style carefully

Say no to or avoid the use of hair dryers, flat irons, curl irons. These hairs styling instruments work on the principle of heat, which when used during winters is even more harmful. Instead use the cool setting of the dryer which may take longer for the hair to dry but it would retain the moisture which is more essential.

  1. Moisturize again before bed

At night, moisturizing the skin is ideal. There’s a slight elevation in body temperature during bedtime, so slather on your favorite heavy-duty moisturizer, and wear cotton gloves and socks as it will block evaporation and help the cream to penetrate more effectively.

  1. Get the Humidifier

Humidifiers get more moisture in the air, which helps prevent your skin from drying out. Get small humidifiers throughout your home; they help disperse the moisture more evenly to benefit both your hairs as well as skin too.

All these simple and easy to follow beauty tips can be really helpful to let you enjoy winters in full swing with skin smooth and hair absolutely strong and shiny.
