Couturier’s Magic: Designer Rohini Gugnani Infuses Indian Craft with Contemporary Fashion

A noted name in the fashion industry, Rohini Gugnani specializes in designing Indian outfits for women of all ages.  An alumnus of NIFT New Delhi, her collection reflects the rich Indian culture with a modern look.  She has been featured in many leading magazines of India, such as Femina, Fimfare, Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan, amongst others.   A recipient of Best Indian Bridal Wear Award by an Indian Wedding Magazine, the fashion designer has also won an award of the Popular Evening Gown Designer by Popular Brand Awards, recently.

About the label:

Her label “Rohini Gugnani” caters to the need of contemporary brides, who want to fuse their looks with modern shades like gold, ivory, blue, green and red. Her collection includes bodylicious bridal gowns, youthful anarkalis, sexy lehenga- cholis and gorgeous sarees. The wedding collection, in particular, features lehenga-cholis, Concept sarees, anarkalis, and suits-salwars which are essential for an Indian wedding wardrobe. With an option of getting the outfits custom design as per the wedding themes or with personal choice, there is ensemble available for all occasions like sangeet, mehendi, haldi and other wedding rituals including the wedding and the reception. Each piece is enhanced with decorative embellishments, texturing and detailing, as well as a fusion of styles in a vibrant color palette. Each one is created specifically such that no two are alike.

Her designs have a range of work—bandhej, embroidery, zardosi, zari, cut, sequin, crystal, bead and kundan Work on sarees. The fabrics she uses are luxurious like silk, velvet, dutch silk satin, pure lakhnawi chikenkari sarees, embossed satin, glass nylon and blended fabrics like satin crepe with elegant embroidery and embellishment provided the classy look in her different collection. Her collection is ready to wear or can be customized as per wedding themes requirements. All these designs are created by master artisans using techniques which have been perfected over the centuries.

What inspires her:

Her research and experiment with different inspiring artworks in India have given couture which is highly rich in Indian heritage and says a lot about our culture without saying a word. From heavy embroideries and crystal work on Anarkalis, to traditional and modern drapes in saris, Rohini has given a new meaning to traditional craftsmanship in a modern frame, which attracts the modern brides.

A regular presenter at India Runway week and many others, this immaculate beauty has created a niche for herself in a short span of time. A fashionista to the core, she is ruling the fashion circuit in Delhi with her perfect aesthetics of design that she incorporates in her work. “My label targets the modern brides and grooms who are all geared up to celebrate the most precious occasion of their lives. Ornately embellished sherwani designs, chic Indo- western suits by her can add a traditional yet dapper look to all the men who are ready to walk down the aisle,” she says. Her creations were recently worn by Bollywood actress Sunny Leone who donned a long high collar neck full sleeved black lace gown with trails designed by her during the 61st annual Filmfare Awards 2016.
