Anita Dongre with her mazing ‘Tree of Love’ Collection at India Couture Week 2017

Anita Dongre brought her sensibility of effortless luxury to India Couture Week with her Winter 2017 collection, ‘Tree of Love’. This collection pays homage to the Bishnoi community’s spiritual reverse for nature using intricate weaves and embroideries that celebrate fine Indian craftsmanship and a way of life.

The evening began with the sounds of Sufi music by Deveshi Sahgal and her band, set amidst the foliage of metallic trees. This set the mood for a collection that took intricate Indian craftsmanship and made it contemporary for a bride who is resplendent, confident and radiant like a woman of today.  The presentation, combined traditional weaves and exquisite embroideries with silhouettes influenced by contemporary styles for both brides and grooms. Beautiful SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association) embroidered tabards were styled with tulle skirts, Mushroo and hand-embroidered tea-length dresses shared the stage with exquisite gottapatti lehengas. Every ensemble told the story of nature in hues of blue, rich maroons, inky black, and a stunning emerald green.  With this collection, Anita Dongre introduced obi belts to hold drapes, embroidered flat shoes and cross-body potli bags that give a bride space to truly enjoy her day while the clothes take care of her instead of the other way around.

Anita Dongre’s outfits were complemented by stunning pieces from Pinkcity, her fine jewellery label of uncut diamonds. Starting with a contemporary presentation of minimal jewellery, the show built up to resplendent bridal couture with layered pieces. Completing the look was the nearly nude makeup inspired by her muse- the woman of today. A touch of gold on the eyes and a modern take on the centre parted bun for hair, celebrated a fresh, lighter aesthetic.
